You’ve probably heard that a good website will also contain a blog. Are you blogging for your business? Get the best of your blogging efforts by following a few guidelines.

Set an Objective

Blogging for the sake of blogging is an exercise in futility. There needs to be a point to the whole process. What are you trying to accomplish? Do you want more people to subscribe to your email list? Visits to your social media pages? Are you hoping to reach potential customers and convert them into sales? Before you go any further it’s imperative that you take the time to set an objective and then determine how you will measure your progress.

Vary Your Topics

If every post is an attempt to sell your business readers will lose interest very quickly. Begin creating a list with a variety of topics. For example, if you are in the business of pet grooming, you might write some posts about microchipping and happy stories of pet reunions. You might also include some posts about area dog parks or events that are pet-friendly. Keep your readers engaged, informed and even entertained.

Consider Your Frequency

How often should you post a new blog piece? People are all over the map with this answer. Some say you should post often, even daily. On the other end of the spectrum are people who think a well-written monthly post is best. Your target market and your particular business will dictate how often you should post. If you have set your objectives (see tip #1) then you will be able to gauge which posts are helping to meet them. You’ll soon be able to tweak your timing and set a schedule that brings the most bang for your efforts.

Use Social Media

You can write the most amazing blog post but it won’t make any difference if no one reads it. Today’s marketing arena requires interaction on various social media platforms. Your blog posts should be posted a couple times on each forum you are participating with.
